Are your lips dry or chapped this time of year? Instead of reaching for a lip balm from the store, why not try making your own? This lip balm is light, nourishing, and free of chemicals and preservatives. Peppermint also makes lips look healthy and full without any invasive procedures. Let’s get started!
For this recipe, you will need the following ingredients:
- Beeswax pellets (1 tsp),
- Avocado oil or olive oil (1 tsp),
- Jojoba seed oil (1 tsp),
- Hemp seed oil (1 tsp),
- Vitamin E (2 drops), and
- Optional: Peppermint or other desired essential oil (8-10 drops).
You’ll also need the following supplies:
- A double boiler or a small pot with a small stainless steel bowl that rests well in the pot,
- A teaspoon measuring spoon,
- A chopstick (for stirring the lip balm),
- A small jar,
- A spatula, and
- An oven mitt.
Instructions:
- To make the lip balm, add water to the small pot (or in the bottom of the double boiler), and bring to a boil on high heat. Rest the small stainless steel bowl on the small pot (or top on the double boiler) so that that steam heats the bottom of the bowl.
2. Add the beeswax pellets into the small bowl and allow them to melt fully. Turn down the heat to medium.
3. Stir in all of the oils and Vitamin E oil. Once everything is mixed well, turn off the heat, remove the pot from the element, and wait for the pot to stop steaming.
4. Next, use the oven mitt to pick up the small bowl (or top of the double boiler) and use the spatula to scrape the lip balm into the jar.
5. Allow to cool and the store with a tight fitting lid for optimal freshness.
I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do!
