Please remember that every person living with environmental sensitives has their own journey. There are many paths up the same mountain. Please take what resonates with you, listen to your own body, and please don’t do anything that doesn’t feel right for you in the present moment.
Why are nutritional deficiencies important?
Many people with environmental sensitivities have had digestive issues, food sensitivities, or lived with high stress levels which may have caused them to develop nutritional deficiencies over time. Nutritional deficiencies can wreak havoc on the body – and different deficiencies can cause different symptoms and problems for health. If this is something you’re interested in pursuing, it’s important to get medical testing done to find out what nutritional (e.g., vitamin and mineral) deficiencies you may be dealing with, if any.
Things you may want to consider when addressing deficiencies
- Get blood work done first, then add in foods and supplements to address your specific deficiencies
- Common deficiencies in North America: Vitamin D, Omega 3s, Magnesium, and B vitamins
- High stress levels can cause you to use up more magnesium and B vitamins
- Avoid omega 3 supplements that smell or taste rancid
- Consider getting your genetics tested (through an epi-genetic practitioner) to determine if you are sensitive to specific supplement ingredients, for example:
- Methylated ingredients, which are commonly found in b vitamins and multi-vitamins
- Glycine, which is frequently in magnesium supplements (e.g., magnesium bisgylicinate)
- You can get testing through a referral from your family doctor, or through “Grassroots Health“, a citizen science organization
