The Ultimate Guide to Living with Environmental Sensitivities

Goal 6 – Find Activities that Spark Joy

Please remember that every person living with environmental sensitives has their own journey. There are many paths up the same mountain. Please take what resonates with you, listen to your own body, and please don’t do anything that doesn’t feel right for you in the present moment.

Why is it important to find activities that spark joy?

If you’re here and reading this, you’ve suffered enough! It’s time to start living your life again and enjoying your time here on this planet. While it’s easy to spend all of your time trying to get better and researching everything, it can often be more beneficial to relax and enjoy yourself. After all, you’re now on goal #6 and have worked hard to get here, so it’s time to have some fun!

Ideas to help you find joy

Everyone finds joy in different things, but here are some of my favourites to help you get started:

  • Reading inspirational books (I am a big fan of autobiographies by environmentalists)
  • Spending “you time” just relaxing (chilling on the hammock, reading books and drinking a tea, having a warm bath)
  • Going for walks in the forest, or around my neighbourhood
  • Watching wildlife (birds, squirrels, and anything else I am lucky enough to see on trail!)
  • Going for bike rides
  • Hiking and/or nature walks
  • Swimming in lakes
  • Going on camping trips
  • Writing cards to loved ones
  • Crafting or other solo hobbies
    • Sewing
    • Knitting
    • Weaving willow
    • Gardening
  • Cooking new recipes
  • Dance parties in my living room
  • Watching movies (big fan of comedies)
  • Listening to stand up comedy
  • Keeping a gratitude journal to help me focus on the positive things in life
